Why I Consign My Clothing

Tales From My Recent Consignment Adventures at Greene Street Consignment Gateway

Earlier this fall, I had the opportunity to partner with Greene Street Consignment Gateway. Located in the greater Philadelphia & Princeton areas, Greene Street Consignment stores have eight locations. Personally, I’ve been consigning at their stores since about 2017 — maybe even slightly before (i’ll have to check with their team on).

Honestly, the purpose of the partnership was to bring awareness of the Gateway location and breakdown the consignment process (including buying & trading). There is a video below that gives a true breakdown of the process.

But, the real question is – why do I specifically like to consign at Greene Street Stores?

For transparency sake, Greene Street isn’t the only place that I’ve sold or consigned clothing, but, it’s the most consistent place where I’ve taken my pieces for several reasons. The process of consigning is rather simple and upfront regarding what you’ll make in return on your pieces (30% to 80%), number of pieces you can consign (50 max) and the turnaround time for payment from your pieces being accepted (45 days).

And, for the times that I’m doing a bit of shopping, their higher end selections and low-key grail pieces are more prevalent that many consignment stores. You’ll wanted to definitely look through their outwear & knit wear if you drop in — there’s some outstanding pieces (especially at Gateway). Basically, you will probably walk out with a piece or two that you’ve been searching for.

Sustainability

Years ago, I got into consigning because — I wanted to make some money off my clothes and I hated the idea of my items end up in a landfill. There’s honestly billions of pounds of clothing waste produced by humans yearly. By consigning with Greene Street, they’re able to keep half a million pounds of clothing out of landfills yearly. HALF A MILLION POUNDS! It’s legit wild to think that one brand’s efforts and keep that much clothing out of landfills.

And, during a conversation with the staff, I’ve always wonder about they racks & wood fixture because they’re all rather uniform throughout all their locations. To my surprise, Greene Street makes all their racks/shelving on their farm located in Chester County, Pa.
